Opening Doors, Improving Lives

Port Resources is 85% Medicaid funded. Medicaid revenue covers the cost of services we provide (including direct support, training and some administration) but does not cover any of the living expenses associated with our programs (these costs include mortgage/rent, utilities, maintenance, technology, food and activities). The living expenses must be covered by the social security income that each individual we support contributes (typically about $550 a month per person); however this does not cover all of the need.

The State of Maine provides a small room and board subsidy to make up some of the difference, but Port Resources is still left with a substantial gap. Due to the nature of these needs, they cannot just be reduced to balance the budget---as these needs are the foundation for those we support. These needs include food, shelter, and the opportunity for those we support to access the community through activities.
